Advances in Water Resources has been a prime archival source for implementation of averaging theories in changing the scale at which processes of importance in environmental modeling are described. Thus in celebration of the 35th year of this journal, it seems appropriate to assess what has been learned about these theories and about their utility in describing systems of interest. We review advances in understanding and use of averaging theories to describe porous medium flow and transport at the macroscale, an averaged scale that models spatial variability, and at the megascale, an integral scale that only considers time variation of system properties. We detail physical insights gained from the development and application of averaging theory for flow through porous medium systems and for the behavior of solids at the macroscale. We show the relationship between standard models that are typically applied and more rigorous models that are derived using modern averaging theory. We discuss how the results derived from averaging theory that are available can be built upon and applied broadly within the community. We highlight opportunities and needs that exist for collaborations among theorists, numerical analysts, and experimentalists to advance the new classes of models that have been derived. Lastly, we comment on averaging developments for rivers, estuaries, and watersheds.  相似文献

The Orlica-Śnieżnik dome comprises large orthogneiss bodies interbedded with amphiblite-grade metasediments and minor metavolcanics. New U-Pb and Pb-Pb SHRIMP zircon ages for two major gneiss units of the dome, the Śnieżnik and Gierałtów gneiss, yielded similar ages of ca. 500 Ma. This is interpreted to reflect the magmatic crystallization age from the same or similar igneous precursors, in agreement with the geochemical characteristics of these rocks. Some zircon cores in both gneisses, interpreted to be inherited xenocrysts, have ages of ca. 530–540 Ma, and, additionally, of ca. 565 Ma and 2.6 Ga in the Śnieżnik gneiss. Igneous grains in both gneiss types have high-U rims, which are dark under cathodoluminescence. They are much better developed in the Gierałtów gneiss and they yield a well-defined weighted mean U-Pb age of 342 ± 6 Ma. These high-U rims are interpreted to have grown close to the peak of HT metamorphism which is responsible for the migmatitic texture of the Gierałtów gneiss. The Visean HT–LP metamorphism in the Orlica-Śnieżnik dome is interpreted as a result of rapid uplift and decompression due to overthrusting of high grade rocks over the Moravo-Silesian nappe pile. Our data support geodynamic models that ascribe a predominant influence in the tectonic evolution of the West Sudetes to the Variscan orogenic events. This is suggested by the inheritance of zircon xenocrysts from the Cadomian basement and by the Late Cambrian–Early Ordovician magmatic event, both typical of the Armorican terrane assemblage, as well as by the Early Carboniferous age of the metamorphism.  相似文献

The East Asian marginal seas are important sinks of terrigenous materials transported by large rivers. In this study two cores from the Changjiang (Yangtze River) and Zhujiang (Pearl River) estuaries and one core from the inner shelf off of Hong Kong were investigated to examine the burial of organic matter during the postglacial period and its possible links with paleoenvironmental changes. Based on a simple two end-member mixing model, the terrestrial organic matter supplied primarily from the Zhujiang and Changjiang dominates the estuarine areas while marine organic matter contributes more to the inner-mid shelf. The competing contributions of terrestrial and marine organic matter are responsible for the downcore variations of organic elemental compositions. The overall decreasing shifts of total organic carbon concentrations and total organic carbon to total nitrogen ratios in the Zhujiang estuarine sediments since 6.5 kaBP seems to support the notion that depth profiles of organic matter compositions deposited in the Zhujiang Estuary can aid in the reconstruction of monsoon history in the Holocene. Nevertheless, organic matter compositions in the Changjiang Estuary and inner shelf off of southeastern Hong Kong respond in a different and more complex way to freshwater discharges or precipitation changes (monsoon variability) in the catchments, owing to complex controls of deposition and preservation of organic matter in these estuarine and shelf environments. Caution is therefore needed in using organic elemental and isotopic compositions to decipher paleoenvironmental changes in East Asian continental shelves where intense river–sea interactions occur and sedimentary environments change drastically.  相似文献

【目的】以2株海洋真菌为研究对象,探究不同种类及浓度的化学表观遗传修饰剂对其次级代谢产物化学多样性和生物活性的影响。【方法】基于化学表观遗传修饰策略,采用两种不同的化学表观遗传修饰剂5-氮杂胞嘧啶核苷(5-azaC)和丁酸钠,分别对Penicillium sp.019和Aspergillus terreus ZN4-5-4两株海洋来源真菌进行表观遗传修饰。通过观察真菌在培养基中的生长状态变化,并根据薄层层析(TLC)指纹图谱、高效液相色谱(HPLC)图谱、乙酰胆碱酯酶(AChE)抑制、1,1-二苯基-2-三硝基苯肼(1,1-Diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl,DPPH)自由基清除和卤虫致死活性筛选模型等技术手段,从中筛选出代谢产物丰富、AChE抑制活性与抗氧化活性产物丰富且毒性小的发酵培养条件。【结果】添加1 mmol/mL的丁酸钠诱导剂可使菌株019和ZN4-5-4的次生代谢产物的种类增加,且同时能提高该菌株次级代谢产物的AChE的抑制活性和DPPH自由基清除活性。因此,确定菌株019和ZN4-5-4的最优发酵条件均是添加浓度为1 mmol/mL丁酸钠的PDB培养基。【结论】化学表观遗传修饰策略指导下,添加诱导剂5-azaC或者丁酸钠对2株海洋真菌次生代谢产物的产生有影响。  相似文献

节理岩体的力学性质对指导工程设计、施工具有重要的意义。为研究组合节理参数对遍布节理试样的力学性质影响,采用类岩材料预制不同节理倾角、间距的遍布节理试样并进行压剪试验。根据高清相机记录的不同节理试样的破坏特征,试样的破坏模式可分为平面剪切破坏、类完整性剪切破坏和斜剪切破坏,节理间距会改变试样的破坏模式而节理倾角对试样的破坏模式有关键性影响。分析不同节理参数试样的峰值剪切强度,遍布节理对试样的弱化程度达到15.95% ~56.62%,节理试样的峰值剪切强度随着节理间距的增大逐渐增强而随着节理倾角的增加先增后减。此外,采用声发射设备实时监测试样加载过程以分析不同节理参数试样的声发射特征。在压密阶段,节理试样的声发射最大撞击数随节理间距减小而增大。声发射峰值能量随节理间距减小而减小,但均值能量随节理间距减小而增大;试样的峰值能量和均值能量随节理倾角增大均呈现先增大后减小的规律。  相似文献

The reconstruction of the transmissivity field from the more numerous experimental hydraulic head data, an inverse problem, remains the focus of continuing stochastic-based research. The difficulty of this problem arises not only from the complexity of the diffusion equation that links the two variables, but also from taking into account the physical aspects of the site under study; e.g. the boundary conditions, the effective recharge, and the geology. In practical applications, the validity of purely analytical techniques proposed to date is limited by certain simplifying assumptions, like the linearization of the flow equation, made in order to obtain a solution. For this reason, a hybrid methodology combining geostatistical techniques with deterministic numerical flow simulators is proposed. This combination allows the numerical calculation of the direct and cross covariances needed to cokrige the transmissivity from both the transmissivity and hydraulic head data. The flexibility of numerical flow simulators takes away the need for the simplifying assumptions of analytical techniques to apply the proposed methodology.  相似文献

Contamination status of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in blubber of finless porpoises (Neophocaena phocaenoides) stranded along the coasts of Seto Inland Sea and Omura Bay in Japan were investigated. Levels of PCBs, DDTs and CHLs were significantly higher than those of HCHs, HCB, PBDEs and HBCDs. Concentrations of PBDEs and HBCDs, as well as organochlorine compounds in males increased with body length (p < 0.05). Among 14 PBDE congeners analyzed, BDE-47 was the predominant, which is similar to those generally reported in biota. PBDEs, HBCDs and PCBs showed no obvious temporal trend in concentrations during the study period, suggesting continuous environmental release of these chemicals. On the other hand, levels of DDT, CHLs and HCHs have decreased. Concentrations of PCBs in liver trematode infected individuals were significantly higher than those in not infected individuals, implying there could be a relationship between contaminant levels and parasitic infection.  相似文献
